Lewis E. Somers and his wife Mary Ella raise the American Flag for Memorial Day in 1939. Lewis Somers was the first rural free delivery mailman along the shore delivering the mail by horse and buggy to Scullville and to other parts of Egg Harbor Township. Lewis Somers was previously in the Merchant Marine and then joined the Coast Guard and served at the Great Egg Harbor Life Saving Station in Longport for many years. Mary Ella, a former teacher in Northfield, was the eldest daughter of Captain John Price of Northfield. Captain Price sailed a coastal schooner between Maine and Georgia and during the Civil War sailed for the United States. After the war, Captian Price donated a huge tract of land to Northfield for their new school on Mill Road. Captian Price was also a founder of Trinity Lodge #79, F&AM, which is now located on Zion Road in Egg Harbor Township.
