EHT Opens the New McCullough Golf Course | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Egg Harbor Twp. - Mayor Sonny McCullough, inset, smiles with approval as golfers enjoy playing a round on Sunday. "I'm so proud of all of our friends and the volunteers who helped turn this old dump into a beautiful golf course," McCullough said. "It really took a long time and a lot of hard work to put it together." Once called "Lee's Gravel Pit," it was opened scores of years ago. The pit supplied fill for local roadways and |

building projects in Atlantic City. When the gravel ran out and there was a huge hole left in the ground, it became an eyesore after it was turned into a dump. Known later as "Pineland's Park," the name didn't disguise the aroma that permeated from the area on hot summer days. It seemed the only things that really appreciated the dump were the 'gulls who visited in droves for their daily lunch and dinners. Now the seagulls have been replaced with some friendly Canadian Geese and the old aroma is long gone. A new man-made lake was added and it is really pleasant to view it from the Club House deck while sipping a cold beer, after a round of golf with your friends. The geese like the lake too. Egg Harbor Township already has nine golf courses, but most of them are very expensive to play. Here residents enjoy reduced rates, and seniors and young people get an additional discount. -- John Dilks
