Clarktown is located on the east bank of the Great Egg Harbor River about 1.5 miles south of Mays Landing. refer to the Atlantic County Road map.
John and James Clark are listed in the "Business Notices" for Hamilton Township on the Map of Atlantic County made by Beere, Comstock, & Cline in 1872, as shipbuilders.
Other lists give Joseph and Lamer Clark.

George May the founder of Mays Landing was a blacksmith and ship builder who built several schooners near Babcocks Creek before the Revolution.
Captain John Jefferies (1829-1887) was the son of John and Isabell (Smith) Jefferies.
He marries Hannah Barrett (1838-1879).

9 Christopher Van Sant (1769-1848) marries Margaret Frambes the daughter of Nicholas and Sarah (Rape) Frambes, Sarah was the daughter of Christopher Rape, see note 1.
10 Nicholas Frambes (1758-1835) married first Sarah Rape. His sons were Job Frambes (1788-1884), David Frambes (1790-1867) and Andrew Frambes (1796-1875), a daughter Mary Frambes (1786-1862) married Daniel Edwards (1782-1844).

The manuscript Journal of Israel Smith for the years 1874, 1877, 1883 and 1885.
Israel Smith (1819-1885) was the son of Elisha and Rebecca (Babcock) Smith. He married first Sarah Gifford (1824-1847) and second Sarah Albertson (1830-1896).

14 I. Smith attended the Zion Meeting House At Bargaintown, Asbury M . E. Church at English Creek and the Palestine Methodist Protestant Church at Scullville.
15 "Brother Moore" was the Rev. Edwin Moore (1849 - 1877) who was the pastor at the Asbury M.E. Church for the years 1873-74. The trailboards were the boards under the bowsprit and above the cut-water with the ships name carved on it and some times a figure.

This was perhaps John B. Smith, the son of James and Sarah (Babcock) Smith.

19 Israel Smith lived on the westerly side of English Creek Avenue in English Creek, just south of Zion Road. The house is still standing and in use. …Map of English Creek.
20 John B. Clayton was the owner of this vessel. He lived on Zion Road in English Creek. He was born in 1830 and died in 1884.
21 Captain Japhet Champion (1843-1915) of Scullville.
22 I. Smith in one entry in his Journal refers to this ship as the St. Clare Edwards.
23 Joseph Scull (1826-1904) was the son of Joseph and Susanna (Blackman) Scull. He married Hannah Parvin Gifford, the daughter of James and Christiana (Sooy) Gifford. Hannah was the sister of Sarah Gifford the first wife of Israel Smith. Joseph Scull II was a partner with I. Smith in his shipyard.
